Blubert – Technology Portal

April 29th, 2010

Blubert.com was a news portal for world, technology, sport, health and of course business issues. Created by its founder in Barbados, it was regarded by some to be the next big thing.
Its purpose was not just to provide news but to rank them in order of web importance. In addition the site provided downloads and video clips that were relevant to technology from around the globe. It was also used to find and then buy and sell domains.
Featuring news in a similar format to Google, blubert provided news on technology not as a whole but in specific subjects such as gadgets or robotics.
It impresses the online community because although created by one programmer the sources and features were characteristic of a highly funded operation.
It was a surprise there fore that in August 2008 that the domain blubert.com appeared Ebay for the starting price of .99cents. It was declared by its programmer, that he was leaving blubert behind to follow up on another breakthrough development.
This was a shame for the people that used the site and the collective of authors whose blogs were included within the portal.

Best prepared plans!

May 3rd, 2010

It was my son’s birthday last weekend and it was a great example of well-laid plans can go wrong. Very wrong!
As it was his twelth birthday we though that we would really make an effort as so we invites friends from Primary school and some of his new friends for his new secondary school. We had perused the Internet to try to find some different events that we might book for the afternoon. We decided on an Archery workshop that we found on a workshops for schools website. The proprietor was very helpful and he did a site visit. All was lucking great but in the day disaster struck. Our archery provider through no fault of his own was stuck in a horrendous traffic jam on the M25 due to a crash in a road works section. What a nightmare 13 twelve year old boys and nothing to entertain them. My only idea was to play some games. I remembered that I had some blindfolds upstairs that we got free on a long haul flight. For the next two hours we played a series of games that we found on the Internet. I can’t believe how well the games went down with the boys. All had great fun.
The archery guy finally escaped the traffic jam and the archery session in our garden was fantastic. Who would have thought that having a few blindfolds could be so useful.
